Not to be confused with National Cheeseburger Day, National Hamburger Day is on May 28th every year, around Memorial Day. This year it’s on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, right after Memorial Day Weekend.
The first known hamburger was created by a 15-year-old German immigrant named Charles Nagreen, who was selling meatballs at the 1885 Seymour Fair in Wisconsin. In at attempt sell them to people who were walking around, he flattened meatballs and put them between two slices of bread, and called it a “hamburger sandwich.” A legend was born, and he was known from then on as “Hamburger Charlie” and returned to the fair every year to sell hamburgers.

Wendy’s is celebrating National Hamburger Day with a special deal. From May 28 to June 1, 2025, customers can get a 1¢ Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger with any purchase by applying the digital offer available exclusively in the Wendy’s app.
Checkers & Rally
On 28, 2025, get The Cheese Double at Checkers & Rally for just $3. The Cheese Double is made with two 100% beef patties, a slice of melty American cheese, crisp dill pickles, diced onions, ketchup, and mustard, all stacked on a sesame seed bun. The closest Checkers & Rally locations to charlotte area are in Shelby and Hickory.
Burger King
As part of Burger King’s Perk Week, loyalty members get a free hamburger with a $1 purchase on May 28, 2025.
Dairy Queen
