Mecklenburg County Public Health is giving away free gun lockboxes at several locations. You can walk in, or request one online, while supplies last.
Firearms are the leading cause of injury-related death for children and youth in North Carolina, and gun thefts are on the rise.
At some locations you can also receive a free car seat safety check.
