Big Rock Nature Preserve, at 6500 Elmstone Drive, Charlotte, North Carolina, is home to some really big things — the largest exposed boulders in Mecklenburg County. It’s a popular place for exploring and climbing.
But through the end of September, 2026, it’s also home to some tiny things.
Whimsies are tiny dolls hidden in nature. Six of them are at Big Rock Nature Preserve through the end of September, 2026. Go on a self-led scavenger hunt and see if you can find them all. The Whimsies might be reading, bird watching, dancing or just enjoying nature.

Big Rock Nature Preserve is open every day from dawn to dusk, and there’s no cost to visit.
