Kannapolis has a lot in store for the 2017 Christmas season. Most of the events take place at Village Park.
- Kannapolis kicks off the holiday season with its tree lighting event on Saturday, November 25th, 2017 at Village Park, 700 West C Street. This year, the Tree Lighting will feature local musicians beginning at 6:00 p.m. and culminate at 6:30 with a “special guest” in attendance to light the tree and help launch a fireworks show. After the tree is lit, the Winterland Express train will be available to take participants through Village Park to see all the light displays. The cost of the train ride is $2.
- From November 25th through December 30th (with the exception of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day) enjoy the Celebration of Lights & Winterland Express. You can walk through Village Park or take the Winterland Express to view the lights. It’s free to walk through the park and $2 for the train. Roast marshmallows, make s’mores, meet Santa or Mrs. Claus. Enjoy a 30-minute Christmas carol performance on the hour, starting at 6 p.m. It will be open Sunday through Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
I visited the Celebration of Lights in 2016 and took a few videos and pictures.
This was on a Saturday night. There were lines to ride the train and to visit Santa, but it wasn’t crowded at all to walk through, or to check out the model trains. There wasn’t a wait to buy food. They were selling hand-dipped corn dogs, funnel cakes, fries and fried Oreos.
The model train display was huge, with lots of interactive features that kids (well, and some adults) were loving. Lots of buttons to push.
There were animatronic bears singing Christmas carols.
- The Kannapolis Christmas Parade takes place December 9th, 2017, at 6:00 p.m., on the streets of downtown Kannapolis. It starts at Dale Earnhardt Boulevard and South Main Street and proceeds to North Main Street and Laureate Way.
- There will be a Holiday Market in Kannapolis City Hall on December 9th, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
