The annual GospelSHOUT concert is back. It’s presented by Levine Museum of the New South and Center City Partners and is held at United House of Prayer for All People, 2321 Beatties Ford Road.
The concert is Tuesday, April 4th, 2023, at 7:30 p.m., and it’s free. Come early (starting at 6 p.m.) and get a soul food dinner at the church cafeteria for around $15.
It’s part of Charlotte SHOUT, a major festival from March 31st to April 16th, 2023.

Shout Bands are a United House of Prayer original, and they have their roots right in this area. The music of these high-energy trombone-led bands is something you ought to experience. The a cappella singing is also outstanding and moving.
Anyone who has experienced the gospel choirs and trombone shout bands of United House of Prayer will not soon forget them.
Trombone shout bands in the United House of Prayer institution, with the tradition handed down from elder to youngster. The band members don’t learn from sheet music or recordings, but from each other.
The composition of the band—as many as a dozen trombones, one or two other horns, and percussion—is unique to trombone shout bands, and so is the style of music. It is improvisational, intense, rhythmic and spiritual.

Cedric Mangum, prominent musician and band teacher at United House of Prayer, says, “On this Gospel journey, the music is food for our souls.”
The evening’s featured shout band, Bailey Clouds of Heaven, has recorded for the prestigious Smithsonian Folkways record label. Excellent choirs typically perform as well.
The whole community is invited to share in this authentic Charlotte musical tradition.
