
Every year, several North Carolina State Parks host First Day Hikes led by park staff. We’ll be listing the First Day Hikes here as they’re announced.
First Day Hike at Lake Norman State Park

Come out to Lake Norman State Park for the First Day Hike! Friends of Lake Norman State Park will provide hot cocoa and s’mores.
A self-led hike option is available all day long.
A ranger-guided hike will be at 10 a.m. We will talk about the plants and animals found at Lake Norman while hiking along the 0.8-mile Alder Trail. Meet at the visitor center.
First Day Ride with Tarheel Trailblazers

Join the Tarheel Trailblazers for a mountain bike ride on New Years Day! All you need to bring is your bike, and water. There will be three group rides for different skill levels.
- 10 am- Advanced Group Ride, 30 miles
- 11 am- Group Ride, 15 miles
- 12 pm- 1 Hour Easy Pace Ride
Boulders Overlook First Day Hike at Crowders Mountain State Park

Celebrate the new year! Join the Friends of Crowders Mountain State Park and a ranger on a family friendly hike to the Boulders Overlook. The hike is 2 miles roundtrip and time will be allotted to explore this unique area of the park. The trip will take approximately 2 hours.
The Boulders Overlook hike will immediately follow the Kings Mountain State Park First Day Hike. If interested, please see the Kings Mountain State Park webpage for more details.
First Day Hike at Morrow Mountain State Park
Sunday, January 1st, 2023
1 to 2 p.m.

The hike will be on the Hattaway Trail which is a 3.1 loop. The group will meet at the trail head by the Swimming Pool. Parking can be found at the Lower Picnic Area if designated areas in front of pool are taken.
