Blue Star Museums is a program that provides free admission to over 2,000 museums nationwide to active duty military personnel and their families. The program runs from Memorial Day, May 30, through Labor Day, September 5, 2016. The military ID holder can bring five family members with him or her, and those family members can include a spouse or child, aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc. If the military member is deployed the spouse can still participate in the free program. Read the FAQ for more details, including the documentation you’ll need to bring.
In Charlotte, participating museums are Charlotte Museum of History, Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, Levine Museum of the New South, Wing Haven and the Mint Museums. Traveling this summer? Find out which museums are participating around the country.
Please note that The Bechtler actually goes one step further, admitting active-duty and retired military personnel, National Guard, Reserve and their families for free all year long.
Also, please make sure to check to see if the museum is open on Memorial Day. Some are not.
