The Charlotte Arborists Association is bringing the The Charlotte Tree Climbing Competition back to Charlotte November 21 to 23, 2025, at a new location — UNC Charlotte’s main campus.
Specifically it’s being held at Hechenbleikner Lake (aka Hech Lake), which is in the southeast part of campus, near University City Boulevard, and right off of University Road. The maps here will help you locate Hech Lake, as well as parking.
On Saturday, November 22, 2025, the public is welcome to come out and watch the competition. the hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. In addition to watching the climbers, there will be informational tables from vendors and sponsors.
It’s FREE for spectators. No registration is required.

The Competition
The Charlotte Arborists Association is a non profit dedicated to helping local arborists and tree lovers connect in the pursuit of safe and effective tree care. Arborists climb trees to tend to their health, and some get pretty competitive about their climbing skills.
Some of the world’s best professional tree climbers (did you know that there are professional tree climbers?) will compete for prizes, bragging rights, and a pretty cool belt buckle. Participants will compete in multiple categories: Work Climb, Throwline, Open Ascent, Aerial Rescue and Belayed Speed Climb.
Top finishers will compete for the title of Master Tree Climbing Champion on Sunday.
