W|ALLS: Defend, Divide, and the Divine
February 24th to July 25th, 2021
This exhibition examines the historic use and artistic treatment of walls over the centuries—whether they are made of stone, steel, sand or wire. The exhibition brings together 67 makers from around the world with 132 images, the earliest from 1897 and the most recent from July 2019. There also is a 26-minute documentary film by award-winning director Jeremiah Zagar that accompanies the exhibition. The space is divided into six sections—Delineation, Defense, Deterrent, The Divine, Decoration, and The Invisible—with each section anchored by a central photo essay.

NexGen Virtual Art Party with Ken West
March 12th, 2021
7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Free, but registration is required, and is limited to NexGen members (NexGen is a free group for teens)
Meet photographer Ken West and find out how he uses empathy and mindfulness in his work. Fascinated by storytelling, human perception, and the human experience, Ken was inspired to capture the moving images of “common things” and people in both rural and city-life. His photos Father of Man and Black Boys Cry featured in Coined in the South exhibition encourages audiences to reevaluate how they view black men and masculinity. By capturing people and things on camera and film we view things “as they are and not how we wished they were…”
During this conversation, Ken invites you to share a photo that you think tells a great story (preferably one you took). Join us for this fun, casual, small-group conversation!
