The Lunar New Year is February 17, 2026. This will be the Year of the Horse. Charlotte Mecklenburg Library has some Lunar New Year events planned. These are free events. One requires registration, but the others don’t. Please make sure to check the age range of each.

Did you know that approximately 3.5 billion people around the world will celebrate the Lunar New Year and beginning of Ramadan tomorrow*? Learn more about international Lunar Calendar-based traditions while painting and tasting snacks that symbolize health, wealth, prosperity, and gratitude!
All supplies are included. This program will be provided by library staff and is recommended for teens and preteens ages 10 to 18.

Celebrate the Lunar New Year with a relaxed, drop-in night of creativity! Unwind, get artsy, and welcome fresh starts with Lunar New Year–inspired projects like creating a DIY lantern or freestyle your own creation.
All supplies and light snacks are provided. Try the sample project or do your own thing—no rules, no pressure. Take your artwork home or leave it to be displayed in the mini gallery. Drop in anytime but please register so they can plan for snacks and supplies.
