On select Saturdays, the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture, 551 S Tryon Street, Charlotte, North Carolina, offers a Family First program. These programs are for both kids and adults, and are hands-on activities to help connect them with culture and art.
The next Family First program is called Symbols of Us, and takes place on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 12 to 2 p.m. Tickets are $13.54, including fees and tax. Purchase tickets at the above link. Space is limited. For ages 7+.
Don’t miss the chance to create a custom, family-inspired emblem rooted in heritage, shared values, and connections.
Explore identity, heritage, and shared values by designing a personal symbol that represents who you are. Inspired by traditional crests and contemporary visual storytelling, participants will reflect on colors, shapes, and imagery that hold meaning in their family.
Led by teaching artist, Dawnunique, families will bring their designs to life through screen printing, creating a custom print that captures their collective identity. This workshop encourages conversation, creativity, and connection, resulting in a lasting visual representation of what makes each person or family unique.
