This is a great excuse to explore what our neighbors to the south have to offer, and to avoid some of the retail madness.

Kings Mountain State Park

Andrew Jackson State Park

What to do: See the statue, Boy of the Waxhaws. Hike the Garden of the Waxhaws Trail (a 1-mile loop around the lake.) Explore the Andrew Jackson Museum.
Landsford Canal State Park

What to do: Explore the Canal Trail and read the interpretive text to learn about the work done on the trail in the 1820s. Check out many intact structures from the 1800s, including locks, mill site and lock keeper’s house.

What to do: Explore some of the 45 miles of trails. See the Advance America Bridge, a 65-foot expansion bridge. Bike some of the 20 miles of mountain biking trails. Go fishing.
