Ace Hardware is giving away 1 million American flags for Memorial Day on Saturday, May 25, 2024.
These are 8″x12″ stick flags, suitable for placing on a grave, field, or garden as a tribute to a fallen serviceman or servicewomen.
Before there was Memorial Day, there was Decoration Day. This observance started after the end of the Civil War. Communities would place flags, as well as flowers and wreaths, on the graves of fallen soldiers.
Over time, Decoration Day evolved into Memorial Day, a national observance held annually on the last Monday in May. The tradition of placing small flags on graves continues.
No purchase is required. The first 240 customers at each participating store will receive a flag, while supplies last. Ace Hardware is also giving away flags to VFW posts, to be used for marking and honoring veterans’ graves this Memorial Day.
Visit any Ace Hardware on May 25, 2024, to pick up a flag, while supplies last.
