
El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day), commonly known as Día, is a celebration of children and of literacy. It takes place every year on the last Saturday of April.
On Saturday, April 25, 2025, celebrate Día at ImaginOn, 300 E 7th Street, Charlotte, North Carolina, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
This is a free event that celebrates the joy of childhood, culture and literacy. This festival features storytelling, puppetry, music performance, literacy activities and more. There will even be a book giveaway.
Featured Performances and Attractions
- Opera Carolina presents Los Coyotes y Las Conejas. This delightful bilingual Mexican folktale integrates Spanish and celebrates the importance of lifelong learning through the adventures of Scrawny the coyote and his mischievous rabbit friends.
- El Punto/The Dot — Presented by the Frontline Puppeteers of Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, inspired by the beloved story by Peter H. Reynolds.
- Multicultural Storytelling
- Charlotte Chinese Story Time — Chinese stories, songs, and hands-on cultural experiences.
- Toylandia Exhibit — Traditional handmade Latin American toys curated by Alejandro Gálvez.
- Henna Art Experience — Cultural body art demonstration.
- Elisha “Mother” Minter — Renowned storyteller and mentor affiliated with the National Association of Black Storytellers.
- CLT Double Dutch Aerobics — High-energy jump rope performance blending rhythm and athleticism.
- Al-Quds Dabka Dance — Traditional Palestinian folk dance celebrating cultural identity and heritage.
- Cultural Clothing Exploration from India and Arabic countries
- Meet-and-greet with Bluey and Stitch mascots
- International games, interactive crafts, and hands-on literacy activities
- Book giveaways
- Marcelo Verdad book signing
