Drone delivery comes to some DoorDash customers in Charlotte — and here’s a discount to try it

Starting today, May 14, 2025, if you’re in a certain area of Charlotte, you can get your DoorDash delivery by drone.

DoorDash customers within about four miles of The Arboretum Shopping Center can order from several restaurants and choose to have their items delivered by drone.

Deliveries should take as little as 15 minutes.

Once the drone arrives it drops to around 23 feet and lowers the parcel the ground with a tether.

And in addition to food delivery, Charlotte residents in select locations can now enjoy the convenience of DashMart with the speed of drone delivery thanks to DashMart by Drone – a specialized DashMart offering that includes a selection of drinks, snacks, medicine, and more, available for drone delivery in under 15 minutes.

To celebrate the launch, customers in this area can get a $1 bowl of Panera Bread’s Mac & Cheese, delivered by drone, to try out the service. Available through the DoorDash app for a limited time.

Wondering if you’re eligible? Open the DoorDash app. If you see the “Drone” icon on the home page of the app you’ll be able to browse restaurants eligible for drone delivery. If the items you choose meet the size and weight criteria, you will have the option to select drone delivery during checkout. After confirming your delivery location, you’ll receive live tracking updates as the drone approaches.
