On Saturday, May 23rd, 2020, Carrigan Farms is opening their natural quarry to swimmers for the season.
This is the most beautiful, natural place in the area to swim.
The entrance to the quarry is 1213 Oak Ridge Farm Highway, Mooresville, 28115. The cost is $15 to $20 at the door, depending on the date and swim session.
Carrigan Farms has made some changes to allow swimming to take place safely this summer. Here are some things to know about the new safety measures, the existing safety measures, and more important information.
2020 Upgrades to The Quarry
The new Quarry Kitchen is a take-out window that serves family favorites like the Quarry Burger and snow cones. There’s a new wider boardwalk, expanded to allow plenty of space. There’s a concrete ramp at the shallow end. Your feet will appreciate the lack of tiny rocks.
Overall attendance is limited to provide more room between family units or groups. In additiony, the maximum allowable size of any single family unit / group is ten people.
In order to facilitate an attendance limit, Carrigan Farms requests that each group make an advance reservation online and pay a $5 deposit per person. In exchange for this online reservation deposit, each reserved guest will receive a $5 dining voucher to use at the Quarry Kitchen on the date and time of their visit for food and non-alcoholic beverages.
Walk-in customers will be allowed, subject to availability.
Keep your group in one area while not swimming
When you’re on land, set up a small footprint of chairs and towels, and use just that room. Leave space between your group and other groups.
Stay home if you’re sick
Please do not visit if you’re sick, if you’ve recently been sick, or if you’ve had recent contact with anyone else who has been sick.
Lifeguards and water safety
Lifeguards are on duty during open swim. All people entering the water must wear a live vest unless they have taken and passed Carrigan Farm’s swim test. Only people 12 and older can take the swim test, so everyone under 12must wear a swim vest no matter what. You can wear your own life vest or one that’s available at Carrigan Farms. Children under 4 years old or under 30 pounds are not advised to swim in the quarry. The farm’s smallest life vests are for children weighing 30 pounds or more. Everyone must sign a waiver.
What to bring
Bring your waiver confirmation, a towel, sunblock, swim suit, water shoes, sunglasses, hat, blanket or chair.
Do not bring
Coolers, dogs, cats, baby goats, or other pets. Do not bring alcoholic beverages, glass bottles, large rafts, paddle boards, kayaks, or boats. No grilling or cooking on site.
The Quarry Kitchen serves grilled hamburgers, veggie burgers, hot dogs, bratwurst, french fries, slushies and snowballs.
Open swim customers who bring their own fishing gear may enjoy catch-and-release fishing at the two farm ponds during open swim. The ponds have bass, bream and crappie. Fishing is not permitted in The Quarry, or at non-open swim times. All fishing is catch-and-release, meaning that the fish cannot be taken home and must be returned to the pond.
Most summer weather forecasts include a chance of rain. The Quarry is open rain or shine, unless otherwise noted on the website. The Facebook page is probably a good place to look for updates as well. If it’s not listed as “closed for rain” it’s open (on the dates and times on the calendar.) If they have to close early for the weather, they do not offer refunds or passes for another day.
