Charlotte Museum of History, at 3500 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, North Carolina, adding its voice to the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence, the first such declaration in the United States.

Meck Dec Day 250 Exhibit

Charlotte Museum of History will unveil a new exhibit, Meck Dec 250, appropriately, on May 20, 2025. Museum hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m..
This exhibit will explore the origins of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence, its presence as a symbol throughout history, and its value to the region 250 years later. Through an interactive diorama of Charlotte in 1775, original documents and artifacts from the Revolutionary Period, and memorabilia from past celebrations, visitors will come away with a fuller understanding of what the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence means to the Queen City.
The exhibit is included in museum admission, which is:
- Adults: $10
- Seniors (62+), Children (6-17), Students: $7
- Veterans: $5
- Children (0-5) and Museum members: Free
Mecklenburg Resolves 250th Anniversary Celebration

On May 30, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the museum is hosting a special event, Mecklenburg Resolves: 250th Anniversary Celebration. This event is included in regular museum admission.
The Mecklenburg Resolves were adopted 11 days after the Declaration of Independence, by the same committee. They were a set or radical resolutions, declaring that all laws derived from the “Authority of the King or Parliament” were annulled and vacated.
This special celebration marking the 250th anniversary of the Mecklenburg Resolves—an important step on the road to American independence. This commemorative event will feature a talk on the history and impact of the Resolves, guided tours of the 1774 Rock House, hands-on crafts, games for all ages, and more. Come explore the revolutionary spirit of Mecklenburg County and discover how this bold declaration helped shape the future of a nation.
