International House and Queen City Art are partnering to present an art exhibition, The Journey, which is on display at Queen City Art, 4237 Raleigh Street, Charlotte, North Carolina.
The two organizations invited immigrant and refugee artists living in the Charlotte region to apply for The Journey, an exhibition exploring the experiences, stories, and perspectives of those who have made the United States their home.
This project focuses on the use of visual arts to illustrate the harrowing, complicated, and hope-filled journeys our immigrant and refugee neighbors take to come to the United States. Through painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, fiber art, mixed media, and other visual art forms, artists are encouraged to share personal stories of migration, identity, belonging, cultural heritage, resilience, adaptation, and community.
This year the exhibit highlights the stories of 40 artists from 21 countries.
Visiting The Journey
The Journey will be displayed at Queen City Art from September 2 to 29, 2026:
- Wednesdays: 5 to 8 p.m.
- Thursdays: 5 to 8 p.m.
- Saturdays: 2 to 8 p.m.
- Sundays: 2 to 8 p.m.
Opening Reception
The opening reception will take place Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 5 to 8 p.m. The artists will be in attendance. It’s free to attend.
Share Your Voice, Community Exhibition
The Journey: Share Your Voice is a community exhibition that celebrates student art and collaborative research. It takes place at Queen City Art on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and is free to attend. The artists will be in attendance.
Collaborators from UNC Charlotte, International House, Queens University of Charlotte and more. View student artwork created through the “Informing Immigrant Integration in Charlotte: Data and Voices of Children of Immigrants” project. New research created through the Welcoming America Gateways for Growth program will also be presented.
