
This year marks the 24th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001.
As we approach the anniversary of 9/11, which is sometimes also known as Patriot Day, we are putting together a list of ways to remember that date in the Charlotte region. There will be several ceremonies.
Flags of Remembrance at Romare Bearden Park
The FF Steven Coakley Foundation places an American flag in Romare Bearden Park, 300 Church Street, Charlotte, North Carolina, for each person who perished in the 9/11 attacks. They will be placing 2,977 flags in the park. On September 11, 2025, there will be a ceremony from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Mooresville 9/11 Memorial Walk & Ceremony

The Town of Mooresville and the Mooresville-Lake Norman and Exchange Club are hosting the 9/11 Memorial Walk on Thursday, September 11, 2025. It starts at Richard’s Coffee Shop, 165 N Main Street, Mooresville, NC, at 8:45 a.m., and ends at Liberty Park, where a ceremony will take place.
Huntersville Field of Honor 9/11 Memorial

The Town of Huntersville remembers the loss of life with its Annual Field of Honor. The Field of Honor is a formation of 200 United State flags at Huntersville Town Center, 105 Gilead Road, Huntersville, North Carolina.
The display will be available from September 2 to 16, 2025, and is open to all without a charge.
Charlotte 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb
The 2025 Charlotte 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb took place on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at UNC Charlotte Jerry Richardson Stadium, 8701 Phillips Road, Charlotte, North Carolina.
9/11 Remembrance Ceremony in Cornelius
On Thursday, September 11, 2025, the Town of Cornelius is holding their annual observance at the Never Forget | 9/11 Monument at Cornelius-Lemley Fire Station #1, 19729 South Main Street, Cornelius, NC. It will take place starting at 7:45 a.m.
The Cornelius Never Forget | 9/11 Monument, which includes a piece of steel from the World Trade Center, honors the first responders, citizens, and military personnel who were affected by the events on September 11, 2001, and educates future generations about the events surrounding this day in our nation’s history.
