FF Steven Coakley Foundation honors the heroes who lost their lives on 9/11, and funds fire safety scholarships at UNC Charlotte.
Steven Coakley was a fire fighter who was killed on 9/11 when the towers came down — one of 343 firefighters who sacrificed their lives during that tragedy.
Every year, the foundation places 2,977 American flags in Romare Bearden Park, 300 Church Street, Charlotte, North Carolina — one for each person who died during the attacks.

12 to 3 p.m.
Join the foundation and help place 2,977 American flags in the shape of the Twin Towers.
Friday, September 11, 2026
8 a.m.
A reflective memorial will be held. A replica of the Twin Towers will be available to sign and share thoughts and memories. In addition, a steel beam from the World Trade Center will be on display
Monday, September 14, 2026
Join the foundation and help remove the flags and other items.
