The old Goodyear building at 100 East Stonewall Street is going to be torn down soon but in the meantime it’s been used to facilitate art of all kind: visual art, film, dance, performance art, music, theatre. On Sunday, January 17th, 2016, at 8:00 p.m. (doors at 7:30 p.m.), it will be the location for Women’s Showcase, and event that will feature the work of female artists. It’s free to attend, but if you’d like to make a contribution, there’s an IndieGogo campaign.
Some of the participating artists are Emily Ramirez, Audrey Baran, Gaby Soto-Lemus, Amanda Grant and Allie Nunweiler, Emily Elizabeth Aiken, Savannah Schoenborn and Brittany Skala, Blakeney Bullock, Caitlyn Swett, Lauren Haug, Camerin Watson, Alexandra Joye Warren, Jesse Keller, Caroline Daniel and Kathryn Ullom, and Arlynn Zachary.
Gathering for an evening of sharing, we aim to create a space that celebrates the accomplishments of female artists, specifically movement makers. This festival will showcase performances by female choreographers and performance artists, as well as feature female visual artists, researchers, and musicians.
In addition to highlighting the work of female artists of various mediums, the festival hopes to further strengthen the performing arts community in Charlotte by bringing artists together and creating a dialogue between the audience and performers concerning work that is being made through the female lens.
