On Thursday, December 6th, 2018, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., go to Shoppes at University Place, 8929 J M Keyes Drive, for a special sound experience.
Composer Phil Kline’s public sound sculpture, Unsilent Night, is created when many individuals simultaneously play one of four tracks on cassette, mp3, or mobile device. The music is blasted through a roving swarm of boomboxes and speakers carried through city streets, creating a luminous soundscape.
In this case the experience will be a musical stroll around the Boardwalk in University City.
Everyone can participate in creating the sound performance.
Unsilent Night has become a December tradition since 1992. It’s taken place in New York, San Francisco, Brussels and many more cities, but this is the first time it will be in Charlotte.
Mulled wines will be available for purchase at the Wine Vault, and there will be visits from the Grinch and other story book characters.
Unsilent Night is different in every location, but for an idea of what it’s like, here’s Unsilent Night in 2016 in Cambridge:
