UPDATE: As of today, November 6, 2025, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Food Policy Council has received more funding, so the program is once again active. If you’re a SNAP recipient, and you did not receive the $50 in tokens at a participating farmers’ market on November 1, you can do so on Saturday, November 8.
SNAP Benefits paused November 1, 2025, due to the government shutdown. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Food Policy Council is partnering with Mecklenburg County Public Health Department to provide financial assistance to SNAP users at farmers’ markets. Full details here.
A temporary SNAP incentive model offering SNAP customers $50 in farmers’ market tokens will take place at participating farmers markets during the month of November, 2025. Please note that the list of participating farmers’ market is not as extensive as the list of farmers’ markets that normally participate in the Double Bucks program. Jump to the list of farmers’ markets.
Please note that there’s a limited amount of funds, and it’s first come, first served.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must present an active SNAP/EBT card at a participating market
- Must reside in Mecklenburg County
- Incentive can only be received once per household. If you received the $50 in tokens on November 1, you’re not eligible to receive them on November 8.
- Tokens must be used on SNAP-eligible food items
- Tokens are market-specific and cannot be redeemed at other markets. But they can be used a different day at the same market.

This incentive will allow Mecklenburg County residents who are SNAP recipients to continue shopping for fresh and local foods at participating farmers markets despite the disruption in federal benefits. This pivot will also preserve the program’s intent to support local farms and farmers markets.
SNAP customers can receive $50 in market tokens, free and clear, by presenting their EBT card at the welcome or SNAP tent of any participating market. SNAP customers can receive this incentive once per market visit/day throughout the month of November.
Tokens are market-specific and can only be used for the market where the tokens are received.
There is no registration required to participate in the program. Anyone receiving SNAP benefits is automatically eligible.
Customers can take home any tokens they do not spend and use them on a different market day, but it must be at the same market.
