Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control and Mecklenburg County Department of Public Health are sharing the information that the 8th positive rabies case has been identified in Mecklenburg County in 2025. Please get your pets vaccinated for rabies.
Rabies vaccination is required by North Carolina and South Carolina law for all cats, dogs and ferrets over four months of age. Even if the city or county you live in doesn’t require your pet to be registered, rabies vaccination is still required.
Rabies vaccinations are good for one or three years.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control offers a free rabies clinic the 2nd Saturday of every month, from 8 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. This is a drive-thru rabies clinic.
The rabies vaccination clinic is for dogs, cats and ferrets who are least 12 weeks old.
No appointments are needed or offered. The line is cut off promptly at 10:45 a.m. Mecklenburg County residents only. The wait will be long, so make sure you have gas in the car, a phone charger, water, snacks and lots of patience! Bring a valid driver’s license or government-issued ID.
Dogs must be leashed and cats must be in a cat carrier.

Please note that the rabies clinic on October 11 is a “mega-clinic” and also includes mini-exams with core vaccines for dogs and cats, and microchipping. These services are also free!
