February 15, 2024
8 p.m.
$7 in advance, $10 day of
Just a few days before going into the studio to record their sophomore album, The DJaM Collective returns to Petra’s for another night of dynamic expressiveness. The group, comprised of Jackson Cini on tenor saxophone, Hazel McKinley on keyboard, Kevin Beardsley on bass, and Daniel Ferreira on drums, is joined this evening by Troy Conn on guitar, adding another layer of depth and exploration to the music.
Inspired by The Black Paintings of Francisco Goya, the compositions by the band’s keyboardist and primary composer, Hazel McKinkey are “an exploration of the final collection of paintings created by Goya that depict images of extreme loneliness, fear of rejection and isolation, sickness, and his own deteriorating mental health. The music is meant to evoke and represent the themes explored in the collection, and find a throughline between the pieces.”
