On April 28, 29 and 30, 2023, at 3 p.m. UNC Charlotte Department of Theatre students will be performing a devised, promenade performance of As You Like It. The audience will be walking with the actors through the garden as the story unfolds around them.
The play is based roughly on Shakespeare’s As You Like It.
Tickets are limited to 25 at each performance, and, at the time of this post, April 28 is sold out, but there is space for April 29 and 30. Reserve tickets here. You can reserve a maximum of 2 ticket per person.
This performance is part of a course in Site-Specific Theatre, taught by Professors Laura Waringer and Andrew Hartley.
As You Like It follows its heroine Rosalind as she flees persecution from her uncle. She is joined by her cousin Celia, and they find safety in the Forest of Arden. During their travels, they meet a variety of characters that help these two girls challenge the traditional norms of love, gender roles, and more.
In the event of rain, the shows will either be cancelled or moved to an indoor location.
The performance will last roughly 90 minutes. Audience will be standing and walking outdoors for the duration of the performance. Please dress accordingly, with comfortable footwear.
The performance will begin and end at the gated entrance to the Van Landingham Glen on Mary Alexander Road. The entrance is a gate across from the Fretwell Building (see map and photo.) Please arrive 15 minutes before the start of the show to check in.
