UNC Charlotte invites the public to a free celebration of the life, work and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at 3:30 p.m. in the Cone University Center, McKnight Hall, 9025 University Road.
The theme for the 2018 MLK Celebration is From #Hashtag to Action. The program will feature keynote speaker Bakari Sellers, recognition of campus partners, and a candle lighting ceremony. There will be a community reception in the Lucas Room immediately following the program.
Bakari Sellers made history in 2006 when, at just 22 years old, he defeated a 26-year incumbent State Representative to become the youngest member of the South Carolina state legislature and the youngest African American elected official in the nation. In 2014 he was the Democratic Nominee for Lt. Governor in the state of South Carolina.
