Huntersville Parks & Recreation is presenting a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration on Monday, January 19, 2026, from 3 to 5 p.m., at David B. Waymer Recreation Center, 14008 Holbrooks Road, Huntersville, North Carolina.
This event is free to attend, and for all ages.
Beginning promptly at 3 p.m. the program will feature light refreshments and a mobile museum of displays to explore. Guests will enjoy local speakers and performers to commemorate Dr. King’s legacy at 4 p.m.
This year’s display, provided by Thankful Heritage Museum, will consist of approximately 400 African American artifacts and civil rights era memorabilia — specifically, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr content consisting of newspapers, magazines, books, pens, plaques, albums and biographies.
This event is expected to be a cross-generational experience. For elders, it will offer a nostalgic walk through history. For younger visitors, it presents a meaningful opportunity to connect with the stories their parents, grandparents, and educators have shared.
