July 16: Live on the Plaza with Ori Jai
Multidisciplinary artist Jaillin Johnson, also known as Ori Jai will create a visual art piece on an 18×24 inch canvas, which she is calling Choral Crew (Red. White. and Blue). Enjoy the live creative process, and connect with Ori Jai directly as she transforms the canvas.
Experience a powerful concert-style performance of A WALK IN MY SHOES, an original urban musical by Jermaine Nakia Lee, featuring live R&B, hip-hop, jazz, and gospel.
This moving story follows four best friends navigating the highs and heartbreaks of adulthood. Expect secrets, soul, and sounds that stay with you.
September’s “Live on the Plaza” features an ensemble band of accomplished musicians, led by singer/songwriter Jason Jet. Interwoven in the show is live music, a blend of covers and original sounds, and a talkback with the band.
Together, the musicians share stories from the road, offering a rare behind-the-scenes look into touring with world-renowned artists such as Anthony Hamilton, Erykah Badu, and more. Through music and conversation, you will gain a unique perspective on what it truly means to perform at the highest level as professional musicians.
October 8: Ancestral Connections
Join La Casa de la Cultura and the Gantt Center as we celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month with a powerful and joyful program honoring our ancestral connections. We’ll begin with a thought-provoking panel conversation, “Perspectives on Ancestral Connections,” where artists and community leaders reflect on how our roots—Afro, Indigenous, and European—continue to shape identity, storytelling, and cultural traditions across generations.
Then, get ready to move! The incredible music group Son de Pueblos will bring the rhythms of our ancestors to life with Puerto Rican Bomba, Venezuelan Calypso, and Peruvian Festejo. Guests are invited to dance, sing, and take part in guided workshops that highlight how music and movement connect us back to our heritage. We’ll close the program with a community reflection circle, sharing stories, feelings, and inspiration as we honor the living culture of our diverse Hispanic communities.
