Romare Bearden Park, at 300 South Church Street, invites the public to its annual Birthday Bash, a celebration that features live music and family activities Saturday, September 1st, 2018, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. This is a free festival.
Food trucks and beer will be available. No outside alcohol, pop-up tents or large umbrellas.
To honor Romare Bearden’s 107th birthday, Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation is bringing saxophonist Shableek and violinist Ken Ford (Ken Ford King Of Strings) to Romare Bearden Park for an evening of superstar jazz.
Shableek will take the stage from 7-8 PM, followed by Ken Ford from 8-10 PM. This event is FREE.
Shableek started his musical career at age 7, playing piano and then saxophone. He founded the group Unkommon Jazz in 2002 and launched his own musical label in 2007.
Ken Ford has a soul-stirring style that highlights all voices of the violin, from sensuous and genteel to dramatic and muscular. He’s played with a number of artists, including Bruno Mars, Jill Scott, Wyclef Jean, Chaka Khan, and more.
