Free evening of Japanese Taiko Drumming at UNC Charlotte on Oct. 20

Experience an evening of Japanese Taiko Drumming at UNC Charlotte, on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 6 p.m. It takes place at Cone Center’s McKnight Auditorium, 9025 University Road, Charlotte, North Carolina.

This is a free event and is open to the public.

This 30-minute performance features Takumi Kato, a world champion Taiko drummer from Japan, who performs alongside his three children.

Immerse yourself in the rhythms and energy of traditional Japanese culture.

Takumi Kato serves as the Tourism Ambassador of Gifu Prefecture and the Honorary Director of Tokiwaza. Alongside his family, he performs as part of Peaceful Forest, a group dedicated to sharing the art of Taiko drumming and cultural exchange.

Their ambitious mission is to give 1,000 Taiko performances across all 50 U.S. states, a journey they began in 2022. In just two years, they have already performed in 28 states—nearly 400 performances—spreading music, tradition, and connection across the country.

This event is organized by the Japan America Society of North Carolina, Department of Languages, Cultures and Translation, Japanese Studies Program and Nihon Club, with support from UNC Charlotte’s Student Government Association.
