If you associate tulips with the Netherlands, you might be surprised to learn that in the springtime, there’s a farm within an hour of Charlotte with a big field of tulips. You can go during their opening hours and cut your own tulips.
Howard Family Farm is at 250 Crater Road in Harmony, 57 miles straight up I-77 from Charlotte. They grow flowers, strawberries, pumpkins, vegetables and more.

This spring, 2021, will be their third year of growing tulips. They’ve planted approximately 70,000 tulips.

Cut Your Own Tulips
The farm opens for tulip cutting on Friday, March 26th, 2021, at 10 a.m. The end date is Sunday, April 11th, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Their opening hours are:
- Monday to Friday: 10 am. to 5 pm..
- Saturday: 10 a.m. to 4 pm.
- Sunday: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
All hours are weather permitting.
Costs and info
- Admission: $3/person
- Tulips: $1/stem
- Tulips: $2 if you dig up the bulb
- Pay at the farm. Cash or credit
- Bring clippers and buckets
- 1 free wrap with admissin

In addition, professional photographers are welcome to do sessions for $25/hour. (Again, the price is subject to change.) If you want to shoot photos before or after hours, and have the field to yourself, it will be an additional $50.

Tulips are Howard Family Farm’s first crop of the calendar year, followed by strawberries, summer flowers, vegetables, sunflowers and pumpkins, with U-pick available for most.
In addition, you can buy already harvested produce on the farm from May to October.
