Mecklenburg County Government offices are closed for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday (January 16th, 2023.)
This includes all units of:
- Department of Social Services (DSS)*
- Public Health
- Elections Office
- Tax Office
- Register of Deeds Office
- Land Use and Environmental Services Agency Offices
- Mecklenburg County Solid Waste Centers
- All recreation centers, senior centers, aquatic facilities and nature centers

Solid Waste Services
City of Charlotte collects garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky waste on all holidays except for the ones listed below. During holiday weeks, all collection services operate on a one-day delay. Friday customers receive service on Saturday.

Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS)
Charlotte Area Transit System buses, LYNX trains and the CityLYNX streetcar will operate on a Sunday schedule on December 24th and 25th, 2022, and on January 1st, 2023.
On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 16th, 2023, the transportation will run on a Saturday schedule.

ABC Stores throughout the state are closed on the following days:
- Sundays
- New Year’s Day
- Fourth of July
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
However, counties might close the stores on other days as well. ABC Stores in Mecklenburg County are closed on Monday, January 16th, 2023, for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Surrounding counties have not announced that ABC Stores will be closed for the holiday.
