This post is updated throughout the year to provide information on hours for various holidays. So you might see some information that doesn’t relate to the current holiday.
In general on Juneteenth
- Government offices and services are closed
- Trash collection is on a regular schedule
- Parks are open
- Recreation centers are closed
- Libraries are closed
- Most stores are open
- ABC Stores are open
- Public transportation is on a regular schedule, but offices are closed
Mecklenburg County Government Holiday Hours
Mecklenburg County government info.
Mecklenburg County offices and services will be closed Friday, June 19, 2026, for Juneteenth.
This includes all units of:
- Department of Social Services (DSS): Child, Family, and Adult Services (although the DSS Social Services hotline operates 24 hours a day, every day, to receive reports of suspected abuse or neglect.)
- Department of Community Resources
- Valerie C. Woodard Community Resource Center
- Ella B. Scarborough Community Resource Center
- Public Health
- Elections Office
- Tax Collector
- County Assessor’s Office
- Register of Deeds Office
- Land Use and Environmental Services Agency Offices
- Mecklenburg County Solid Waste Centers
Park and Recreation:
- All Recreation and Senior Centers – Closed June 19
- Nature Centers – Closed June 19
- Parks and Nature Preserves – Open June 19
- Seasonal Pools and Spraygrounds – Hours vary.
- Ramsey Creek Beach is closed due to ongoing drought conditions.
City of Charlotte Holiday Hours
City of Charlotte Offices
Closed on City-recognized holidays:
- New Year’s Day (January 1st)
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- Good Friday
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Veterans Day
- Thanksgiving Day and day after Thanksgiving
- Christmas + one day
Solid Waste Services
- There will be no trash pickup from City of Charlotte on January 19 (MLK Day), May 25 (Memorial Day) or Labor Day (September 7.)
- There will be a one-day delay in trash pick up on November 26 (Thanksgiving) or Christmas (December 25.)
- There will be no delay in trash pickup on New Year’s Day, Presidents’ Day, Good Friday, Juneteenth, Indigenous People’s Day and Veterans Day.
Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS)
Juneteenth:
- Call Center, Lost and Found, Pass Sales and Information offices will be closed June 19, 2026.
- All bus, rail and paratransit services will operate on a regular weekday schedule on June 19, 2026.
Charlotte Mecklenburg Library
All branches of Charlotte Mecklenburg Library will be closed on these holidays in 2026:
- January 1: New Year’s Day
- January 19: MLK Day
- April 3: Good Friday
- April 5: Easter Sunday
- May 25: Memorial Day
- June 19: Juneteenth
- July 4: Independence Day
- September 7: Labor Day
- October 12: Indigenous Peoples Day / Staff Development Day
- November 11: Veterans Day
- November 26 and 27: Thanksgiving
- December 24 to 26: Christmas Holiday
Stores (for groceries)
Most stores are open regular hours on Juneteenth.
ABC Stores
Mecklenburg County ABC Stores are closed on Sundays and the following holidays:
- New Year’s Day
- MLK King Jr. Day
- Memorial Day
- Labor Day (with some exceptions)
- Veteran’s Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
The ABC stores in most other counties are closed on the same holidays.
