
New larger-than-life puppets are popping up around Charlotte, part of Charlotte International Arts Festival (CIAF.)
Three new giant pageant puppets, “Women of the World, were commissioned by the Charlotte International Arts Festival and created by local puppeteer Christine McLennan.
They represent a trio of women:
- Bessie Coleman, the first African-American and Native American woman pilot, renowned for her stunt flying.
- Cheng I Sao, a fearsome 19th century Chinese pirate.
- Ynés Mexía, an adventurous early 20th century Mexican-American botanist and conservationist

- 9/18 at 7pm – All My Friends are Fly – Levine Avenue of the Arts
- 9/19 at 6:30pm – Festival in the Park, Charlotte NC – Freedom Park
- 9/20 at 1:30pm – Festival in the Park – Freedom Park
- 9/20 at 6pm – Latin American Festival – Ballantyne’s Backyard
- 9/21 at 5pm – Festival of India – Charlotte – Ballantyne’s Backyard
- 9/25 at 6:30pm – SouthPark After 5 – South Park Symphony Stage
- 9/27 at 3pm – UNCC International Festival
