Free fruits and vegetables for WIC participants at 3 farmers' markets

Fresh fruits and vegetables are now easier to access for families enrolled in WIC!

Eligible recipients of Public Health’s Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program can now use their benefits to buy fresh fruits and vegetables at participating local farmers’ markets.

The benefits are available for WIC-eligible pregnant, postpartum, partially breastfeeding and breastfeeding women, and children two to four years old at three local farmers markets:

Charlotte Regional Farmers Market (1801 Yorkmont Road, Charlotte)
Uptown Farmers Market (300 South Davidson Street, Charlotte)
North Meck Community Farmers Market (21445 Catawba Avenue, Cornelius)

The WIC Farmers Market Program will continue through October and provide WIC participants with $30 in electronic benefits to purchase fruits and vegetables. To help families maximize their purchasing power, the Mecklenburg County Food Security Program will match WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program benefits by an additional $30 dollars until available funding is exhausted.

Customers will have 30 days from the date of issuance to use their benefit at any of the three farmers markets with participating vendors. This program is led by the WIC team in collaboration with the County’s Public Health Food Security team, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Food Policy Council, and participating farmers markets.

This is one of several programs helping neighbors access healthy, local foods, including SNAP Double Bucks and the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program.
