Cinco de Mayo (May 5th), commemorates the Mexican army’s victory on May 5, 1862, over French forces at the Battle of Puebla. It’s often misunderstood to be Mexican Independence Day (which is on September 16.)
In Pueblo, Mexico, the day is celebrated with military parades, battle reenactments, and cultural performances. Here in America, celebrations are often just parties with a general Mexican theme, through music, food, drink, and decor.

On May 5, 2025, Moe’s Southwest Grill is giving away a free side of queso with the purchase of any entrée. Even better, with Cinco de Mayo falling on a Monday, Moe Rewards members can still enjoy the Moe Monday offer (price may vary by market), meaning they can stack this free queso offer with even more savings. The Moe’s celebrations don’t end there – the first 20 guests to visit participating Moe’s locations on May 5th will score a free Moe’s T-shirt! Participating locations only.
Chuy’s
On May 5, 2025, Chuy’s is offering their regular house ‘Rita for $6. Or get a Grande House ‘Rita for $10 and keep the giveaway cup, while supplies last. Chipotle is offering a free regular side of Chips and Queso Blanco with the purchase of at least one regular-priced entrée at participating locations from May 3 to 5, 2025. The free item must be ordered as a single regular side of chips and queso, rather than individual side items. City BBQ
On May 5, 2025, at participating City BBQ locations, get free chips and queso with any $25+ order when you use code CINCO.
Fiesta Mexicana Grill

Zapata’s Mexican Restaurant
Two locations of Zapata’s Mexican Restaurant will celebrate on May 5, 2025, with a DJ and drink specials.
Zapata’s Ballantyne, 15105 John J Delaney Drive, Charlotte, NC, will offer $6 tequila and $7 margaritas from 5 to 10 p.m., and Zapata’s University, 8927 JM Keynes Drive, Charlotte, NC, will offer $5 tequila and $5 margaritas. Both starting at 5 p.m.
