On Saturday, April 5th, 2014, and Sunday, April 6th, the Charlotte Arborists Association is hosting the annual Tree Climbing Competition at Freedom Park, 1900 East Boulevard. More than 40 professional tree climbers (did you know that there are professional tree climbers?) will compete for prizes, bragging rights, and a pretty cool belt buckle. Participants will compete in five categories: Work Climb, Throwline, Footlock, Belayed Speed Climb and Aerial Rescue. Top finishers will compete for the title of Master Tree Climbing Champion on Sunday.
The competition is from 8am to 5pm both days. Perhaps most fun of all, you and your family can get in on the tree climbing action at the Family Fun Climb on Saturday from 10am to 5:30pm. Professional Certified Arborists will help climbers into saddles attached to ropes that have been secured up in the crown of the tree, and professional climbing instructors will work with each climber. The Family Fun Climb is free and it’s also free to watch the competition.
