The Independent Picture House, Charlotte’s only arthouse cinema, is set to officially open on June 24th, 2022. There will be a soft opening, with discounted prices, on June 20th, and 21st. (Keep reading for a list of the soft opening films.)
And you can be among the first to watch a film at The Independent by attending one of the final two films of Cine Casual Film Series there on June 17th and 18th.
In addition, there will be an open house on June 18th and 19th, from 12 to 3 p.m., with free popcorn and sodas!
The Independent Picture House is at 4237 Raleigh Street, Charlotte, in an area being called The Trailhead District. Its next door neighbor is Charlotte Art League, so it’s set to be a cultural hub.
It’s near the corner of Sugar Creek and Tryon Streets (where Asian Corner Mall is), a mile and a half from the heart of NoDa and, .3 miles from the Sugar Creek Station on the LYNX Blue Line (a 6-8 minute walk.) There’s ample free parking.
The Independent Picture House is operated by the nonprofit Charlotte Film Society. You can expect to see independent and foreign films there, as well as film festivals, film premieres and many more events.
The last theater to regular screen independent and foreign films was The Manor. If you were a regular there, you might recognize the popcorn machine from The Manor!
