After a significant renovation, Independence Park, at 300 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte, NC, is officially re-opening on Thursday, June 29, 2023.
Elizabeth Community Association announced this event on their Facebook page.
At 10 a.m. Mecklenburg County’s official re-opening event will take place on the stage atop the new restroom facility, near the tennis courts.
Speakers will be marking the occasion, and food trucks will be onsite.
Then, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., the Elizabeth Community Association is presenting Picnic in the Park. Meet on the shady lawn at the shelter between the wading pool, gazebo and playground.
Pack a picnic and enjoy live music:

- 7:25 p.m.: Radio Free Elizabeth
Elizabeth Community Association will provide water, cookies, and frozen treats. There will be a bounce house for the kids.
Frisbees, bikes and other park toys are welcome too.
If you can walk or ride a bike to the event, please do, to save room for those who need to park.
