The North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Mecklenburg County Center, provides programs in the areas of 4-H youth development, horticulture, local foods, food safety and preservation, and nutrition education.
The organization has several FREE event coming up. They are all either virtual events, with free materials for you to pick up before the program, or they are only take-home kits (no online program.)
Pick up the materials at the office, 1418 Armory Drive, Charlotte, before the programs. (In one case, the materials will be mailed to you.)

4-H National Ag Day: Virtual Pizza Farm Night

Welcome to the 4-H Pizza Farm: An Agricultural Adventure! You are in for an exciting and tasty evening in on Zoom. This is designed to teach young people, ages 8-12 about where their food originates by using something they love to eat…PIZZA! According to a recent Gallup poll, Americans eat about 100 acres of pizza each day!
Participants will receive the ingredients for this pizza-making evening in a FREE kit. Kit pickups will be held at 1418 Armory Drive, Charlotte, NC 28024 on March 16th from 9AM-4PM.
Spring Into 4-H With Origami Tulip Kit

This is a FREE “take-home kit” with all the needed supplies and instructions for youth ages 5-18 to learn how to create colorful paper tulips using the origami method. This is a great family or siblings helping siblings opportunity for some spring fun as we wait for warmer days to arrive.
In addition to instructions and materials, kits will also include some fun agriculture literacy facts and information about tulips as we celebrate National Ag Day on March 23rd and NCA&TSU Small Farms Week, March 21-27th. So register today and boost your tulip trivia while creating a beautiful piece of art!
Kit pickups will take place at our office, 1418 Armory Drive, Charlotte, NC 28204 on Thursday, March 25th from 9a-1PM. *As a courtesy to others who may wish to participate, please do not register for a kit if you are unable to make the pickup time.
4-H Disease Detectives Series

Intrigued by the microscopic viruses that spread across our planet? Want to test your investigative skills and help others adapt to this pandemic? Interested in epidemiology (how we can track and prevent the spread of germs and diseases)?
Join us for a virtual Disease Detectives: Operation Outbreak project! Anyone interested in medicine, health, veterinary sciences, communications, or marketing should join.
The 4-H Disease Detectives Project will help you learn about disease outbreaks, virus transmissions, public health investigations, and how protective actions like hand washing, wearing masks, vaccinations, and herd immunity help manage negative public health outcomes. This project is designed for youth ages 12-18 years old. The project series will meet on-line via Zoom.
April 6th – May 25th, every Tuesday from 3:30-4:30 PM
Participants will be mailed a FREE project kit with the graphic novel, worksheets, and other items for the series.
