Juneteenth is a holiday that marks the day, June 19th, 1865, when the Emancipation Proclamation (which had been issued on January 1st, 1863) was finally read to enslaved African–Americans in Texas.
One celebration this year is the Juneteenth Liberation Drive-Thru Celebration on June 19th, 2020, at 6:30 p.m.
To participate, decorate your car, and drive down the Beatties Ford Road corridor any time between 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Local organizations are asked to contact Alesha S. Brown, Executive Director of For the Struggle, Etc., at 704-800-6628 or fill out this form.
The intersection of Beatties Ford Road and LaSalle Street is where the organizations will be organized. If you’d like to watch, you should be able to park your car at any of the businesses on the corridor, but you should ask the business if it’s ok.
