No, Charlotte Motor Speedway hasn’t turned the track into an ice rink, but next best thing — they’ve created a 5,400 square foot ice rink next to the Speedway.
This all-new attraction is an addition this year to Speedway Christmas, the 4-mile drive-thru light display with more than 4 million lights.
However, these events are ticketed separately. You do not have to buy a ticket to Speedway Christmas in order to skate, or vice versa.
Learn about two more outdoor ice rinks in the Charlotte area this winter.
Ice skating will be available from November 21st through January 17th, except for Christmas Day, on this schedule:
- Monday to Thursday: 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
- Friday: 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.
- Saturday: 12 p.m. to 11 p.m.
- Sunday: 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The cost will be $15/hour and will include skate rental.
Tickets are available by calling 1-800-455-FANS (3267), online at www.charlottemotorspeedway.com or at the gate upon entry.
Tickets and concessions at the ice rink will all be cashless to limit contact points for guests.
In accordance with health guidelines around social distancing, there will be a cap on the number of skaters allowed on the ice at any given time.
Masks will be required for all visitors.
Parking for those visiting the rink, which is located near the Gate 6 entrance across from the Fan Zone, is free.
Ice skating is also available at the U.S. National Whitewater’s 17,000 square foot ice rink. There, the cost is $20 per day (including skate rental), plus $6 for parking.
If you just want to skate for an hour, the rink at Charlotte Motor Speedway is a better deal, but if you want an all day experience (or a larger rink), the Whitewater Center might be the better bet. You do have to reserve a time slot at the Whitewater Center, and you can only reserve one time slot at a time, but you can secure additional time slots (for the same “Single Day Pass” at guest services on-site.
Also, think about what other activities you might want to enjoy. U.S. National Whitewater Center has the walk-through Lights exhibit on a trail in the woods, at no additional cost.
And Charlotte Motor Speedway, of course, has Speedway Lights, which includes drive-in holiday movies. The cost of Speedway Lights is $20 to $30 a car, depending on the date.
