YWCA Central Carolinas, 3420 Park Road, is hosting CMPD’s CLEAR Workshop Series on Thursdays from January 23rd to February 6th, 2020, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. each night.
These are free workshops.
The first two workshops will take place at YWCA Central Carolinas’ Park Road facility, and the final workshop will take place at the Police & Fire Training Academy, 1770 Shopton Road. Childcare will be provided for the first two workshops.
Each evening, attendees will participate in exercises that put them behind the desk of a captain, in front of a roll call as a sergeant, or behind the body-worn camera of an officer.
Along the way, participants will learn about
- Staffing and deployment of officers
- Crime fighting and community engagement strategies
- Arrest, search and use of force laws and policies
- Accountability and investigation of police misconduct
Each workshop will address key issues such as decision making – the how and why – response to resistance, and the 4th amendment.
On January 23, attendees will have an introduction to the workshops, receive an overview of CMPD, participate in a crime fighting exercise and learn about patrol resources and patrol operations. Childcare will be provided.
On January 30, attendees will participate in a crime fighting exercise and learn about patrol responses. Childcare will be provided.
On February 6, attendees will participate in an internal affairs mock exercise and firearms training simulator exercise at the Police and Fire Training Academy.
