Cine Casual Film Series presents recent, internationally-acclaimed and award-winning Latin American films, specially curated for the Queen City.
The films will be screened at various venues, from May 21st to June 18th, 2022. Tickets are $6 per film. Find more information about the films and purchase tickets here.
Films will be shown with English subtitles, if the films are not in English.
Films on June 17th AND 18th are being screened at the brand new Independent Picture House, which hasn’t even had its grand opening yet! This is a great chance to be one of the first to experience it!

Four stories based in NC: a magic kite that reunites a family torn apart by deportation; an animated documentary about a devoted caretaker, her chronically ill husband, and the power of undying love; a behind the scenes look at Charlotte’s vibrant Latin music scene and the making of an album during the COVID-19 pandemic; and a grandson’s innocent recounting of him and his abuela’s journey, filled with tragic losses and new found hope.

Through this hobby, both men will be able to help each other in facing the dramatic changes of their countries.

Elena is a single mother who relies on Social Services. Her son Tom has behavioral issues and is stigmatized at school as a “problem child” in the border city of El Paso, Texas. An absent father further complicates their difficult relationship. Tom is diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and prescribed psychiatric medication, but a strange accident alerts his mother as to its side effects. When Elena refuses to continue administering the drugs to Tom, Social Services threaten to remove him from her custody.
