GENESIS: BMW From The Beginning
GENESIS: BMW From the Beginning, Presented by The Werk Shop, exhibits twenty-four historically significant cars and motorcycles built by BMW from 1927 to 1965. All have been lovingly restored, and are owned and cared for by passionate enthusiasts.
With informative kiosks, an audio tour, and fascinating vintage photography, GENESIS begins during World War I, when BMW emerged as a maker of technically advanced airplane engines, through its expansion into motorcycle and automobile production in the 1920s.
The exhibit explores BMW’s incredible motorsport successes of the 1930s, its role in supplying the German military during World War II, and its rebirth as a peacetime mobility company in the 1950’s.
Produced with sponsorship from The Werk Shop, Classic BMW of Plano, Texas, CocoMats, and Yokohama Tires, GENESIS assembles the largest collection of pre- and early post-war BMWs ever seen in North America.
The automobiles on display are especially rare, and several are the only examples of their kind in the US.
Together, they take visitors through the astoundingly rapid development of BMW as a carmaker in the 1930s, when its race-winning roadsters gained world renown, through its postwar resurrection with the Baroque Angel sedans in the 1950s.
One of the cars you will see at the exhibit are the 1930 Dixi (pictured above), the oldest known BMW in the United States.
You’ll also see the 1954 327/3 coupe, the only known “EMW” in North America.
The 1958 503 Cabriolet is one of 13 in the US. It also won awards at the Pebble Beach Concours.
And the 1937 328 is one of 464 ever made. The smaller car next to it is a unique gas-powered car for children. A mini-me!
