Mecklenburg County Solid Waste is now accepting gently used medical equipment as part of its enhanced recycling program at Compost Central.
Residents can drop off certain medical items – including scooters, manual wheelchairs, shower chairs, and walkers, at Compost Central, 140 Valleydale Road, Charlotte, North Carolina.
Compost Central’s normal hours of operation are Monday to Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This program keeps no longer needed items out of the landfill, while helping residents declutter, but, most importantly, helps those with medical needs in our community.
Mecklenburg County has partnered with AssistMe, a local nonprofit that collects, cleans, and donates medical equipment to uninsured or underinsured patients in Charlotte.
Do you have a need for medical equipment? You can apply to AssistMe and request the equipment that you need. Items are given to recipients based on income and medical need, and availability.
Medical equipment is the newest service offered through Mecklenburg County enhanced recycling. Other accepted items include white rigid foam, books, shredded paper, textiles, food waste, clean wood and furniture, and solar panels.
