Apollo: When We Went to the Moon
Apollo: When We Went to the Moon will be at Discovery Place Science from October 2nd, 2021, to January 2nd, 2022. It’s included in the price of general admission.
This touring exhibition is co-produced by U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL, and Flying Fish.
It explores both the history and science of our journeys to the moon.
Leave your footprints on the moon, and get behind the wheel of a full-size Apollo 15 Lunar Rover model.
Explore Apollo era artifacts, like the gloves worn by Apollo astronauts.
Check out true-to-scale models of satellites, spacecrafts and rockets, and try out the 360-degree Apollo 11 Launch Experience.
Discovery Place Science Exhibitions
Discovery Place Science, at 301 N. Tryon Street, is a favorite of kids and families in Charlotte. It features:
- Think It Up: Experiment, collaborate and learn by doing
- Being Me: Exhibition that celebrates human health and anatomy
- Cool Stuff: The strange and eccentric world of physical phenomena
- Kidscience: A special place for little ones and their caregivers to test, tinker and try
- Project Build: Elaborate castles to secret forts
- World Alive: Charlotte’s only indoor rainforest

Parking at Discovery Place
The Discovery Place Science Parking Deck is located at the corner of Church and 6th Sts. in uptown Charlotte. Walking access to the Museum from the Parking Deck is through the overstreet walkway on P3 or by entering the Museum from 6th St.
Parking Rates:
- First Hour: FREE
- 1 Hour +: $12.00
- After 5:00 p.m.: $5.00
Make sure to bring your ticket from the parking garage to admissions so that you can pay for parking.
Military Discount at Discovery Place
Active members of the U.S. Military and their immediate family members will receive $2 off Museum admission at any Discovery Place museum.
Senior Discount at Discovery Place Science
Seniors – Guests age 60 or older will receive $2 off Museum admission at Discovery Place Science. Senior Admission to Discovery Place Science is $15 per guest. Senior discounts are not available at Discovery Place Nature or Discovery Place Kids.
Group Discount at Discovery Place Science
Groups – Perfect for schools, camps, company outings, scout troops, seniors, family reunions and more, groups of 15 or more receive discounts off general admission pricing. You must schedule in advance by contacting Guest Sales. More details

Welcome Program at Discovery Place
The Welcome program provides low-cost admission to North Carolina and South Carolina families who receive Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) or Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) food and nutrition benefits.
Tickets are just $1. Show your benefits card of voucher at Admissions and up to six family members pay just $1.
You’ll need to bring:
- A valid North Carolina or South Carolina state-issued photo ID
- Your Electronics Benefit Transfer (EBT) card or a WIC card/voucher.
Also, parking is discounted to $8 per day through Welcome.
This offer is for any of the Discovery Place museums.

Discounted Memberships for Educators
Educators – All certified K-12 teachers and homeschool educators in North Carolina or South Carolina qualify for specially-discounted Educator Memberships. Educator Memberships are valid for two named adults and up to four children age 18 and younger living in your household. Save $20 to $30 off membership price, based on level. AAA Discount at Discovery Place
AAA – Members of AAA will receive $1 off Museum admission, for up to four people, at any Discovery Place museum. To redeem, present your AAA Members card at Admissions on the day of your visit.
ASTC Reciprocal Admission
As a member of a science center or museum participating in the ASTC Travel Passport Program, you are eligible for free admission to Discovery Place Science when you travel outside of your local area. To qualify, your resident Museum and your home address must be located outside of 90 miles of Discovery Place Science. For eligibility and exclusions click here. The ASTC Travel Passport program is not available at Discovery Place Nature or Discovery Place Kids.
Discovery Place Membership
Get a family membership to Discovery Place and your family can visit all year. A membership to Discovery Place Science is $150, and you can pay $30 more (each) to join Discovery Place Nature or Discovery Place Kids. Family membership includes unlimited admission for two adults plus all children under 18 living in the household. It also grants you a discount on IMAX tickets, the store and cafe, and a discount for your guests. And it also includes discounted parking ($8.) An individual membership is also available for $80.
