Gaston County Museum, 131 Main Street, Dallas, is hosting a Day of the Dead Celebration on Saturday, November 2nd, 2019, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
This family-friendly celebration is free to attend.Dia de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead, is a traditional Mexican holiday in which participants remember and pray for their friends and family members who have passed away. The holiday features altars to loved ones and brightly painted sugar skulls.
There will be:
- Ofrenda (alter) to honor deceased loved ones
- Traditional Mexican crafts
- Children’s games
- Music
The museum will be open for regular hours, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
At 11:30 p.m. Fr. Jose Juya, from St. Michael’s Catholic Church, will bless the ofrenda.
Then from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., dancers from St. Michael’s Cultural Ministry will perform.
Guests are welcome to place photos or mementos and offerings on the ofrenda (alter) to honor their deceased loved ones. The ofrenda will remain on display in the Museum through the month of November.
