In February, 2025, Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) launced CATS Micro. CATS Micro is an on-demand shared-ride service that offers point-to-point transportation within a designated zone.
The service uses CATS Micro branded vehicles.
The fare is the same as a local bus or light rail trip: $2.20 per person, no matter how far the ride is (within the zone.)
CATS Micro is first operating in Northern Mecklenburg County, from around Northlake Mall up to Downtown Davidson. The coverage is mainly north of I-485. More areas will be added.
CATS intends for the wait time to be no more than 30 minutes from the time of the reservation to pickup, but traffic delays might affect those times.
Free Rides
Read on to learn all about how to use CATS Micro. But first: Charlotte Area Transit System announced that CATS Micro will be FREE to ride from July 7 to 13, 2025. Village Rider Routes 97, 98, 99 and 290 will no longer be in service. Use CATS Micro instead. The free ride announcement was made on Facebook.
Hours of CATS Micro
CATS Micro will operate daily during these hours:
- Weekdays: 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Weekends: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
To Book a Trip on CATS Micro
- Download the CATS-Pass app from the Apple Store or Google Play Store and log in.
- Select “Plan” within the app and enter your current location and
desired destination. If CATS Micro is available for your trip, it will show as an option in your planning results. - Choose “Start Booking” to proceed with your booking.
- If needed, you can also book by calling 704-336-7433.
Accessibility
If you need an ADA-accessible vehicle for any reason, be sure to request it during the booking process. When booking on the CATS-Pass app please select the appropriate accessory on the booking page of the app to ensure that the vehicle coming to pick you up meets your needs. If booking your trip through the call center, please make sure to share your request with the representative.
