Carolina Theatre first opened in 1927 and was a performance hub and favorite entertainment destination of Uptown Charlotte until it closed in 1978.

Carolina Theatre was the original home of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. Elvis Presley performed here. The movie The Sound of Music played to nearly 400,000 people during its run (more than the population of Charlotte at the time.
The City of Charlotte gifted the property to Foundation for the Carolinas in 2012 for $1. The Foundation for the Carolinas initiated a $90 million philanthropic campaign to restore the theatre, starting in 2017.
The moment has come for Charlotte to once again enjoy the Carolina Theatre.
